Your Weekends Don’t Have to Be the Highlight of the Week

It’s Monday morning, and you’re already counting down the hours until Friday afternoon. Guess what? Your weekends don’t have to be the highlight of the week. Use these tips to change your outlook.

How to Make Weekdays the Highlight of the Week

Plan Your Meals

Pre-planning your meals may sound like an overwhelming task. However, a little bit of preparation will make your weekdays much easier. For example, something as simple as setting your weekly dinner menu, gives you one less thing to worry about. Instead of trying to figure out what to cook after an exhausting day of work, you’ll have a built-in plan. Shopping on the weekends and/or freezing ready-to-go meals also frees up time on weeknights. And remember, shortcuts are perfectly fine. Purchasing pre-packaged meals from the grocery store, subscribing to a meal delivery service, or ordering takeout are all wonderful ideas.

Schedule a Fun Weekday Event

Most people look forward to weekends because they can relax and have fun. So, why limit the fun to Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays? Even though you don’t have as much downtime during the week, you still can fit in an interesting activity (or two). You could schedule a weekly event such as Monday night yoga, Wednesday movie night, or Thursday night soccer league. Or you may decide to switch things up. For example, one week you could meet a friend for dinner, and another week you could go to a concert. Spreading activities across weekends AND weeks means there always will be something special on the horizon.

Find a Job You Like (or Even Love)

If you subtract your sleeping time, your weekends last for around 35 hours. Yet, you’re at work for 40 or more hours per week. If you don’t like your job, you’re doomed to be unhappy more often than you are happy. Why live this way? Of course, the perfect job is more of a dream than a reality. Nevertheless, if Monday mornings routinely fill you with dread, you probably need to reevaluate. Start by making a list. What would make you happier at work? Then, figure out how to get there. You may end up talking to your manager about a reassignment, upgrading your skill set, or looking for an entirely new position.
